Beginning September 26th, DPS will implement a statewide photo enforcement program expansion to include a total of 100 systems comprised of 60 stationary speed cameras and 40 mobile speed units. The goal is to have 100 speed enforcement cameras operational by January. Drivers would be cited for going 10 miles over the speed limit. Across the state, each Highway Patrol District will be assigned two to three mobile units. The program calls for DPS to partner with ADOT for deployment of all cameras based on serious injury and collision statistics.

Dispute between Dewey neighbors leads to arrest

A Dewey man was arrested Tuesday after he allegedly assaulted his elderly neighbor. YCSO spokesman Dwight D’Evelyn says the 74-year old victim had set up a video-camera on his porch which captured the attack by 62-year old Jerald Piper. As the men stood on their respective sides of a dividing fence, Piper allegedly punched his victim, an incident the deputy later verified by watching the video. Police say the deputy had to use his Taser weapon on the suspect after Piper refused to comply with the officer's command that Piper be handcuffed. Piper was charged with aggravated assault and resisting arrest.

PANT busts alleged meth transporter and dealer

A Cottonwood man is looking at 5-to-15-years in prison if he’s convicted of transporting and selling methamphetamine. PANT Sgt. Randy Moffitt says officers Wednesday received information that 38-year old Brian Nauenburg was transporting methamphetamine into the area; a traffic stop was conducted at Highway-260 and Western Drive. In the vehicle officers found a 1/2-ounce of meth along with 2 children sleeping in the back seat. Moffitt says immediately after the traffic stop they went to Nauenburg’s home to conduct a follow up search. Moffitt says the people inside the house had been tipped off that PANT was coming and evidence was destroyed. Moffitt says there were numerous adults and children in the house; one adult, Danny Boyers, was arrested on outstanding warrants for kidnapping, probation violation and possession of marijuana. CPS was notified about the children.

Claire Ketchum says dry air coming in from the pacific will keep moisture from coming up from Mexico. He says the lull is typical with the monsoon. We have a 10-to-20% chance of showers and thunderstorms today and tomorrow…that will increase to a 30% chance Saturday and Sunday and a 40% chance by the start of next week.
